CHIKUNGUNYA
Is a viral disease transmitted by the bite of infected female mosquitoes of the aedes species, mainly Aedes aegypti.

SIGN & SYMPTOM
Ø Fever (may last for weeks)
Ø Headache
Ø Fatigue
Ø Nausea (vomiting)
Ø Muscular pain
Ø Rash (red spot in skin)
Ø Severe joint pain (may be persistent)
TREATMENT
No specific treatment. Chikungunya is cured by immune system in almost all cases. Paracetamol may take for relieve pain but aspirin should be avoided. Research is ongoing on the development of DNA vaccination.
PREVENTION
Avoid mosquito bites:
1. Use mosquito net when sleeping.
2. Wear dress where cover most of the body.
3. Use mosquito repellent.
4. Use curtains or window nets which prevent entry of mosquitoes into the house.
Mosquito breeding control:
1. Drain all the water collected around the house.
2. Turn the containers over or completely cover them to keep out mosquitoes.
3. Introduced fish varieties such as guppy into the pond or mosquito eaters around the house.
NOTE: Toxorhynchites splendens (mosquitoes) also known as mosquito eaters, where their larvae are prey on the larvae of other mosquito species, particularly Aedes aegypti and they are not blood sucker.
